What is a Doula?

As a doula I will serve as your birth companion, usually part of the supportive triangle or team whose pinnacle is the birthing person and mother alongside the birth partner. As a doula, I am a knowledgeable but non-medical person who assists and attends to you before, during, and/or after childbirth,  A doula attends labor, oftentimes at home, and prior to moving to your birth setting or settling into your home birth. As your doula I give you time and attention by mothering the mother in you and supporting your birth partner by serving the needs of the burgeoning or existing family.

Why hire a Doula?

Benefits of a Doula include: the mother will be more likely to experience a completely physiological birth ie:  less likely to need pitocin, less likely to have a cesarean birth, less likely to use any pain medication and more likely to have an affirmative birth experience. For many women the support of a doula shortens active labor by as much as half of the average length of time.
